Zurich Australia has unveiled a pioneering income protection benefit tailored specifically for women's health conditions, including menopause and endometriosis.
This initiative addresses the significant impact these conditions have on women's professional lives and financial stability.

Recent research by Zurich Financial Services Australia highlights that approximately 75% of working Australian women have experienced negative career effects due to health issues such as menopause and endometriosis. The study, involving nearly 800 women, revealed that 80% reported decreased productivity, 60% required substantial time off work, and 30% faced financial losses. Alarmingly, nearly 70% of these women did not disclose their conditions to employers, fearing discrimination or lack of support. Among those who did, one in three reported experiencing workplace discrimination, particularly in sectors like healthcare, social welfare, and education.

In response, Zurich's 'Women's Health Benefit' is integrated into its updated Corporate Care Income Protection product. This benefit offers financial support to women dealing with conditions such as ectopic pregnancy, Hyperemesis Gravidarum, preterm birth, stillbirth, neonatal mortality, endometriosis, Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD), and menopause. Beyond financial assistance, eligible women gain access to educational resources, masterclasses, and digital health programs to aid their recovery.

Darren Wickham, Head of Group Insurance at Zurich Australia & New Zealand, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating that women's health conditions are often under-researched and misunderstood, leading to significant workplace challenges. By introducing this benefit, Zurich aims to provide comprehensive support, enabling women to manage their health without compromising their careers or financial security.

This development is particularly relevant for Australian women aged 25-55, especially professionals and self-employed individuals who may lack adequate income protection. Understanding the nuances of income protection insurance and the specific coverage options available is crucial for safeguarding one's financial future. Zurich's initiative sets a precedent for the industry, highlighting the need for tailored insurance products that address the unique health challenges faced by women in the workforce.
